Al-Anbat -
Stable weather conditions are expected to prevail on Tuesday during the daytime with clouds at various altitudes and southwesterly moderate to brisk winds, blowing dust in many parts of the country, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily brief.

At night, the Kingdom is forecast to come under the grip of a very cold air mass in front of depression centered over Cyprus, pushing mercury significantly down and bringing chilly and partly cloudy weather with scattered rain in the western regions that may turn heavy with hail, the JMD added.

Snow flurries are also forecast to fall over the high mountain peaks, mainly the southern highlands, while winds will be stronger and gusty with speed exceeding 70 kilometers per hour in many areas and stirring dust in the Badia, according to the JMD.

The weather department also warned of poor visibility due to dust formation, strong winds, and of slippery roads in the areas experiencing rain as well as the possibility of snow accumulation after midnight over the high southern mountains.

As we head into Wednesday, the impact of the polar depression will deepen in the early morning hours, as mercury will further drop, making bitter cold and partly cloudy weather along with downpours in the western areas accompanied by thunder, lightning and hail at times, the JMD noted.

"The heights of the Kingdom will witness snow showers that may mix with rain at times," the forecasters said, adding that the polar front will sweep the country in the late night hours and rainfall will stretch to cover various regions.

Rain is expected to be heavier with thunder, lightning and hail in some cities, the meteorologists predicted, noting that snowfall is also forecast in mountainous areas that are 800 meters above sea level and higher, while winds will be southwesterly active with strong gusts reaching 80km/h and blowing dust in the desert.

On Thursday, the country will remain under the impact of the polar front. Therefore, freezing and cloudy conditions will continue to persist with occasionally heavy rain and a chance of snow showers over the high mountain peaks, the department further said.

Daytime temperatures expected for today will reach 17C degrees Celsius in Amman, 14C in the northern cities and 15C in the southern highlands, dropping down to 1, 0 and -1C respectively at night. The weather will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 23C and lows standing at 8C, the JMD explained.
