Fair weather forecast today, polar front tomorrow

Al-Anbat - Mercury levels are expected to dip few degrees on Monday, remaining 4-5C above their annual average, so it will be fair in the Kingdom’s most regions, and warm in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said.

On Tuesday, dusty conditions are expected to prevail countrywide with clouds at various altitudes, mainly in the southern and eastern areas of the country, the JMD added.

Toward night, Jordan will be affected by a very cold air mass in front of a depression centered over Cyprus, pushing temperatures sharply down and bringing chilly and partly cloudy weather with scattered rain in the western regions, while winds will be southwesterly brisk with strong gust exceeding 60 kilometres per hour in many areas, according to the JMD.

Snow flurries are also forecast to fall in the late night hours over the southern highlands, the weather department predicted.

The impact of the depression will deepen early Wednesday, as mercury will further drop, making bitter cold and partly cloudy weather with heavy downpours in the western areas accompanied by thunder storms, lightning and hail at times.

"The heights of the Kingdom will witness snow showers that may mix with rain at times," the forecasters said, adding that the polar front will sweep the country in the late night hours and rainfall will extend to cover various regions.

Rain is expected to be heavier with thunder, lightning and hail in some cities, the meteorologists predicted, noting that snowfall is also forecast in mountainous areas that are 900 metres above sea level, while winds will be southwesterly active with strong gusts exceeding 80km/h and blowing dust in the Badia.

Temps in Amman today will range between 18 degrees Celsius and 6C, while the port city of Aqaba will reach a high of 23C, dropping to 11C during night hours.
