Al-Anbat - The results of an output assessment of a recently-drilled well in the eastern Risha gas field indicate an output capacity of 8 million cubic feet per day (MCFPD), according to Mohammad Khasawneh, Director General of the National Petroleum Company (NPC), the company managing the field.

In a statement Wednesday, Khasawneh said that output from Well 53 will boost the field's total production capacity to 27MCFPD from 19MCFPD now, making it the largest productive well in the field located near the eastern border with Iraq.

The Kingdom's current daily consumption of natural gas stands at 350MCFPD.

Khasawneh praised the efforts of the NPC's staff, who completed drilling works in Well 53 at the beginning of this month, stressing the importance of their role in achieving more success toward expanding production in the Risha field by re-exploring existing wells and exploring new ones in the project area.

He stressed that the results from Well 53 will help enable the company to implement its multi-stage strategic plan aiming at increasing the contribution of local sources to the total energy mix.

Earlier this month, Minister of Energy Hala Zawati announced that the NCP has discovered "promising" new quantities of natural gas in Well 53 in the Risha gas field along the eastern border with Iraq and said an assessment of the well's yield would become clearer by year-end after final results appear.
