Labor Watch urges revisit of nurseries, kindergartens shutdown
Al-Anbat - The Jordan Labor Watch on Wednesday called on the government to reconsider its decision to shut down all nurseries and kindergartens and said the decision risks women withdrawal from the labor market.
In a statement, the watchdog proposed the formulation of strict infection control protocols at nurseries and kindergartens to curb the spread of the coronavirus, indicating that thousands of women work in these institutions.
It added that women needs extra incentives and empowerment to join the labor force, especially as families are placed under additional pressures as a result of losing livelihoods and dwindling income.
The Labor Watch warned that the shutdown of nurseries and kindergartens risks to "undermine" all public and private efforts geared toward broader economic empowerment for women.
