Online food sales hit record high in Jordan;

Online food aggregators are recording exponential growth in Jordan and across the world leading to a significant impact on the food and beverage sector. Today, as people look for more convenient solutions for anything from full-course meals to mid-day snacks, they have come to rely on handy food apps.

With just a few clicks, they can discover new restaurants, order from menus, and receive live tracking updates of where their orders are. Online food aggregators have also contributed to increase in revenue of restaurants, creating a vibrant tech-driven ecosystem that adds value to every stakeholder – from restaurant operator to the customer.

This is underpinned by the remarkable success achieved by home-grown restaurants that are not only finding new customers but also reporting brisk business through repeat orders. Highlighting the success on online food delivery is Shawermerz, which has recorded a whopping 600% increase in food order in the past year.

Zaid Tillawi, co-owner of Shawermerz, said that online food ordering is rewriting the rules of the restaurant business, adding that since it joined Talabat, orders have increased over 600 per cent. "We strongly believe that Talabat could pave the way for more restaurants to adopt the virtual kitchen concept in the near future to fulfill the increasing demand for food delivery. With the opening of our second branch shortly, we are confident that Talabat will help us reach new customers quickly and increase our sales as it did with the first one.”

Talabat is today the most-used food delivery app in Jordan. Tillawi said its success is also highlighted by "reasonable service fee and fast delivery, which have encouraged individuals to order single meals, and that resulted in more people trying our food.”

Bringing innovation and creativity to the restaurant scene of Amman, Shawermerz was launched following the success of Dokkan Manqoush. "We attempted to modernise the traditional Manaeesh and add a premium feel to it. We set up Shawermerz from the experience we gained from Dokkan Manqoush. Since its inception, we have aimed to provide exceptional customer experience, premium food quality, and diversity in taste, and as a result Shawermerz stands out among its competition.”

The restaurant organises ongoing promotions, which too have benefited from its partnership with Talabat. "We recently organised the Shawerma Week, and its impact was massive and exceeded our expectations. Talabat's orders almost tripled during Shawerma Week, and we had to assign a dedicated cashier to enter the order into the system,” said Tillawi.

Talabat GO, Talabat’s delivery service, enables restaurants to benefit from an end-to-end delivery fleet. On the value-add of Talabat GO, Tillawi added: "We have always been interested in trying new channels that can drive more business to us. Talabat's move to offer a delivery service brings exceptional value as the entire food ordering process is managed by one entity. We are happy with the continuous improvements that are being made by Talabat to make the process more streamlined and intuitive.”
