Al-Anbat - The Senate's Jordanian-Turkish Brotherhood Committee, chaired by Munir Sobar, on Tuesday met with the President and members of the Turkish-Jordanian Friendship Committee at the Turkish Parliament.

During the meeting, Sobar described the 70-year-long relations between Jordan and Turkey as "historic and deep-rooted," pointing out that the two countries see eye-to-eye on a number of issues, notably the Turkish stance on the Palestinian cause.

He said the Turkish parliamentary delegation's visit comes amid heightened regional tensions, the latest of which was the Turkish military operation in northeastern Syria. He pointed out that the Kingdom's position on the operation is in line with the Arab League's stance.

The Senator underlined the importance of resolving all "outstanding" issues through dialogue and within the framework of international legitimacy, calling for the preservation of Syria's unity.

Head of the Turkish-Jordanian Friendship Committee, Hulya Narges, said that bilateral relations are "distinguished," lauding the Kingdom's efforts as a host of over 1.3 million Syrian refugees, and its position towards the Palestinian cause.

She said Amman and Ankara stand on common ground regarding many issues, underscoring that maintaining Syria's territorial integrity is of great importance for Turkey, because "Syria's security is of Turkey's security."

Narges noted that Jordan and Turkey cannot bear another wave of refugees, adding that Turkey is hosting some 3.6 million Syrian refugees.

Members of the Turkish committee said their country's operation in northern Syria aims, according to them, to "prevent setting up a terrorist corridor in the region, and create the conditions for the voluntary return of refugees to their country."

They also voiced Ankara's keenness to enhance the level of bilateral economic cooperation with Jordan and the exchange expertise.
