The Lower House of Parliament condemned the new Israeli escalations including the arrest of chairman of the Jerusalem Awqaf Council, Sheikh Abdul Azim Salhab and the issuance of an arrest warrant for General Director of the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department Sheikh Azzam Al-Khatib.

House Speaker Atef Tarawneh said in a statement during a session on Sunday that the Israeli practices will not prevent Jordan from continuing its role in protecting Jerusalem based on the Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in the Jerusalem.

Tarawneh urged the government to take an immediate action to end the Israeli measures, release the detainees and cancel the arrest warrant against the director of Jerusalem Awqaf Department, noting that such measures will have grave consequences.
