Lower House endorses General Pardon law

Ending weeks-long debate, the Lower House of Parliament Monday endorsed the General Pardon Law, a day after the Senate's amendments to the bill, in a session chaired by Speaker Atef Tarawneh and attended by Prime Minister Omar Razaz and Cabinet members.

The legislature concurred with the Senate's decision to not include crimes against authorities in the General Pardon Law, specifically Article 185 and 186 of the Jordanian Penal Code No. 16 of 1960. 

Moreover, foreigners residing in the Kingdom, who violate the residency and foreigners affairs laws, should rectify their status within 180 days of the date the law goes into effect to in order for the legislation to include them, the bill stipulated .

Another decision that conditions dropping charges on the part of the plaintiffs, or the payment of the claimed amount money regarding financial issues, was also approved today.

Earlier, the Senate upheld the House's decision on narcotics to incorporate Articles 7,8,9 and12/ A of the Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law included in the General Pardon Law.
